For second time in a day, I-10 eastbound reopens after crash closed all lanes in South MS
Interstate 10 reopened Monday afternoon after a crash briefly closed both eastbound lanes near the Menge Avenue exit.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Landon Orozco said just before 1:40 p.m. that both lanes were back open. The Mississippi Department of Transportation earlier announced both lanes had closed at 12:40 p.m.
Orozco said two passenger cars collided, injuring at least one person. More details on the crash and extent of injuries were not immediately clear.
A MDOT traffic map showed backups had stretched to the Vidalia Road overpass by 1 p.m. Traffic cleared by 1:45 p.m.
It was the second crash in the area on Monday. A semi-truck and commercial vehicle also collided early Monday morning, closing both eastbound lanes of I-10 near the Mile 21 marker before they reopened at 8:15 a.m.
