One dead, 2 injured in crash between Jeep, Freightliner in South Mississippi, police say

A Texas resident died in a crash with a Freightliner semi-trailer truck Sunday on Highway 98 in George County, authorities said.

The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. Sunday in George County, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Landon Orozco. The collision occurred when a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Kinh Chau, 63, of Little Elm, Texas, crashed into a 2018 Freightliner driven by David Ables, 48, of Vancleave.

Chau was headed east on Highway 98 when he ran into the eastbound Freightliner.

Chau died at the scene. Two passengers in the Jeep, Dana Chau, 18, and Ana Phu, 58, also of Little Elm, Texas, suffered injuries in the collision. They were hospitalized in stable condition, Orozco said.

The crash remains under investigation.
