Separate 18-wheeler crashes cause lane closures and backups across I-10 in South MS
Two separate 18-wheeler crashes on Interstate 10 Tuesday afternoon closed lanes and snarled traffic during rush hour commutes, authorities said.
Authorities first rushed to clear an 18-wheeler that crashed before 3 p.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 23, between Exit 20 and Exit 24 at Menge Avenue.
The right lane in that area was closed at 3 p.m. Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Landon Orozco said authorities were still working to pull the 18-wheeler from the mud around 5 p.m.
The truck was hauling lumber and the driver was not injured, Orozco said.
Another crash between an 18-wheeler and car on the westbound Pascagoula River Bridge injured two people later Tuesday afternoon. The injuries were not life-threatening, Orozco said.
The crash blocked the left lane and led to backups in Jackson County. It also led to several minor crashes as traffic backed up behind the 18-wheeler, according to Orozco.
The cause of the crashes was not immediately clear.
