‘Major delays’ reported on I-10 for the second time this week. When will traffic clear?
Traffic slogged for hours again Wednesday in an often-congested area of Interstate 10.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation warned drivers to expect major delays between County Farm Road and Kiln DeLisle Road.
The agency said crews were making emergency repairs to potholes between Menge Avenue and County Farm Road. Drivers should expect alternating lane closures until 5:30 p.m.
MDOT also said wet roads were slowing traffic near County Farm Road.
Potholes have cracked the interstate and led to closures near Menge Avenue several times in recent months because heavy trucks are putting too much weight on a drain in the right lane. MDOT has shifted traffic onto the shoulder while crews work in the median to add one lane in each direction of I-10. The agency has placed signs on I-10 that warn trucks to use the left lane during construction.
Wednesday’s backup is also the second this week after hours-long delays on Monday.
