Wednesday was another day of ‘major’ delays again in both directions of I-10 on MS Coast

Traffic slowed again in both directions on Wednesday in a construction-filled area of Interstate 10 that has left Mississippi Coast drivers slogging through congestion for months.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation warned drivers to “expect major delays” in between the Vidalia Road bridge and County Farm Road. The delays lasted until late in the afternoon.

An MDOT traffic map showed westbound backups began just before County Farm Road and stretched to the Menge Avenue exit, where crews are working to build a new Buc-ee’s Travel Center. Eastbound delays ran from the Vidalia Road bridge through County Farm Road.

The stretch of I-10 in Harrison County is filled with construction projects and has been plagued with backups in recent months. Construction to widen the interstate by one lane in each direction has also led to potholes MDOT says can be up to 10 inches deep and over 10 feet long.

The agency said Wednesday it was making emergency repairs to resurface and repave the road between Diamondhead and County Farm Road. It warned drivers to expect alternating lane closures.
