MDOT warns drivers to expect second day in a row of major delays on I-10 in South MS
Drivers should expect a second day of major delays Friday on Interstate 10 in Harrison County, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said.
The delays began Thursday morning and will last at least four hours on Friday, according to MDOT. An MDOT traffic map shows the delays are only affecting westbound lanes between the Vidalia Road overpass and the Menge Avenue exit. Thursday’s delays were originally forecast to last four hours and, instead, lasted into the early evening.
Traffic has often slogged in the area in recent months because of several construction projects. An project to widen the interstate has also forced MDOT to repair new potholes the agency says can be up to 10 inches deep and over 10 feet long.
MDOT said Friday it was making more emergency repairs between the Menge Avenue exit and Exit 20 for DeLisle and Pass Christian. Crews are alternating lane closures in the area, and delays could persist in both directions, the agency said.
MDOT warned traffic is slow in the area and asked drivers to use caution and be ready to stop.
