MDOT reports ‘major delays’ again for MS Coast drivers on Interstate 10. Here’s why
Drivers on Interstate 10 near Pass Christian should expect “major delays” Monday in both directions after crews closed both right lanes for emergency repairs, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said.
The right lane is closed in east and westbound lanes so crews can resurface and pave the road near the DeLisle and Pass Christian exit. Work near Exit 20 began at 10 a.m. and extends through 3 p.m., according to MDOT. The agency earlier estimated closures would last only through 1 p.m., but has since extended the timeline.
The agency asked drivers to stay on alert for roadside workers.
Crews closed the lanes to patch pavement in two different spots in the same area of I-10, MDOT public information officer Anna Ehrgott said.
The delays are the latest of regular backups in recent months on I-10 between County Farm Road and Diamondhead. Construction in the area will continue for at least two years, until crews finish widening I-10 by one lane in each direction. MDOT has said most lane closures will happen at night, but some, including for emergency repairs, will come during the day.
An MDOT traffic map showed backups at noon Monday from Diamondhead past Vidalia Road.
