Expect delays on Interstate 10 after crash on bridge in South Mississippi, MDOT says

Traffic snarled Friday afternoon on the Pascagoula River Bridge after a crash in the westbound lanes, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said.

Traffic slowed through Interstate 10 in Jackson County near Exit 86. At 2:30 p.m., MDOT estimated delays would last one hour.

The crash had cleared by 3 p.m. but traffic was still congested in the area, Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Landon Orozco said.

The traffic started after a vehicle hauling a trailer broke its axle in the westbound lanes, Orozco said. Traffic slowed as the vehicle moved to the shoulder. But congestion grew worse when a minor crash occurred in the already backed-up traffic, Orozco said.

No injuries were reported.
