Rain in South MS is leading to ‘major delays’ on problematic stretch of I-10, MDOT says

Traffic slowed to a crawl on Interstate 10 Thursday as a rainstorm soaked South Mississippi.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation warned drivers to “expect major delays” in westbound lanes. Traffic began near Diamondhead and had backed up past the Menge Avenue exit by noon.

The agency said delays could last more than 3 hours Thursday morning. By midday, MDOT estimated delays would continue for at least an hour-and-a-half.

Wet roads are causing the slow traffic, MDOT said. The agency urged drivers to drive carefully through the area and be prepared to stop. Forecasters have said rain will continue much of Thursday and Friday, and could lead to flooding in low-lying areas of the Mississippi Coast.
