A Gulfport man traveling as a passenger was killed in a two-car collision in Stone County on Thursday evening.
Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Cpl. Chase Elkins said the incident happened about 4:15 p.m. on Highway 15 near Wire Road.
Elkins said a Perkinston man was traveling north on Highway 15 in a white, 2013 Ford F-150 when he crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane. A gray 2005 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 29-year-old man entered the northbound lane to avoid the truck. Then the 86-year-old driver of the truck re-entered the northbound lane, where the vehicles collided head-on.
Stone County coroner Wayne Flurry identified the victim Friday as 39-year-old Omar Aranda Perez of Gulfport. Elkins said Perez was in the front passenger seat of the Corolla. He was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries suffered in the crash. The driver was taken by medical helicopter to Forrest General Hospital with moderate injuries, Elkins said. The driver of the F-150 was taken to Stone County Hospital with moderate injuries.
