Commute nightmare: Snow, ice bring I-95 traffic to a standstill Wednesday evening
Traffic on southbound I-95 outside of Hardeeville was hardly moving just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday after a winter storm dropped a few inches of snow and some ice over the Lowcountry and portions of southeast Georgia.
At least 10 people have died after crashing into trees on a stretch of I-95 in South Carolina since January 2014. The S.C. Department of Transportation is nearing the end of a project to remove 99 acres of trees near the interstate.
One person was killed and two injured in an accident on I-95 in Jasper County. The southbound vehicle left the road and hit a tree on the shoulder. The accident happened in an area where trees near the roadway are slated for removal.
