Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Chase Elkins said one person died after a multiple-vehicle accident Thursday on Interstate 10 in Jackson County.

Elkins said the person killed was driving a motorcycle in the eastbound lanes.

He was identified as Phillip Mullins, 44, from Long Beach.

The accident, which involved an 18-wheeler, blocked traffic on both the east and westbound lanes of I-10 from about 6 a.m. until 7:15 a.m., when westbound lanes were re-opened.

The accident was near Exit 50 (Highway 609) near Ocean Springs. Mississippi Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed an 18-wheeler on its side in the grass off of I-10.

Elkins said the truck spilled diesel fuel as a result of the wreck.
