Gulfport police re-opened on Tuesday a section of Hewes Avenue that was closed after a dump truck struck a power pole, causing intermittent power outages.

Police had closed Hewes from 26 1/2 Street to Tennessee Street about 1:15 p.m. in response to a mishap with power lines.

The crash caused isolated power outages from Hewes Avenue to 28th Street, Gulfport Police Sgt. Joshua Bromen said.

Mississippi Power spokesman Jeff Shepard said power was restored to all but six customers by 4:30 p.m.

A Mississippi Power Co. crew went to the scene to make repairs.

Police cleared the street for travel while power company workers crossed the street as needed, Bromen said.

The power company made repairs that took about three hours to complete.
