Woman dies in Jackson County wreck

A woman is dead after a single-vehicle wreck Monday evening in Jackson County.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Chase Elkins said the wreck occurred about 5 p.m. on Mississippi 613 just south of Hill Avenue.

A vehicle was northbound on Mississippi 613 went it ran off the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, an unidentified woman, was pronounced dead on the scene, Elkins said.

He said she was the only occupant of the vehicle.

It’s unclear why the vehicle ran off the roadway. MHP troopers are investigating the cause of the wreck.

Traffic is moving slowly as first responders work to clear the wreckage.
