A forgotten hero will be buried Monday at Biloxi National Cemetery.
Not much is known about Robert Creech, 89, other than he was born March 17, 1927, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, he received an honorable discharge, he died in a care facility in Ocean Springs and he has no known living relatives, said Jeffery O'Keefe Jr. of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes.
The funeral home is conducting the service with the help of the Navy and Department of Veterans Affairs
"It will probably be a three-man team to play taps and do the folding and presenting of the flag," he said. "And the flag will be donated in his honor to the National Cemetery.
"We did not know him personally, but we know the great sacrifice and service he gave to our country and wanted to personally show our respect and gratitude by providing him a proper burial. Our servicemen and women give so much to and for this country, this is the least we can do to give back and show our appreciation -- ensure that no hero is forgotten, even in their final days."
Everyone is invited to the 12:30 p.m. service Monday at the cemetery at 400 Veterans Ave. in Biloxi.
