GULFPORT -- A U.S. Navy base has been cleared following a bomb threat Wednesday that turned out to be a hoax.
Emergency personnel at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport responded to a bomb threat in the base's housing area late Wednesday afternoon.
Public Affairs Officer Rob Mims said a resident received a call from someone claiming there was a bomb in the residence.
Several houses in the vicinity were evacuated while security personnel cleared the home.

"No bomb was found," Mims said. "However, all threats are taken seriously. No one was injured in the incident, and it is under investigation."
