Noise, low-flying helicopters expected across South MS this month. Here’s why

Residents near the Gulfport Combat Readiness Training Center may see more planes and low flying helicopters over the next several weeks due to an Air National Guard training exercise that begins Friday.

The exercise, called Sentry South 26-2, includes about 1,100 service members from active duty, National Guard and reserve components of the U.S. military, according to a news release.

The training will also occur at Camp Shelby, near Hattiesburg. The exercise is scheduled through March 6.

The controlled exercise trains service members on how to respond to advanced enemy threats, according to federal authorities.
