Keesler pauses reopening plan due to COVID-19, imposes stricter guidelines
Keesler Air Force Base has delayed entering the third phase of reopening its facilities and is instead tightening COVID-19 guidelines on the base.
The Biloxi base announced Wednesday that it is has returned to Health Protection Condition (HPCON) Charlie in response to rising cases of the novel coronavirus in the community in Harrison County and on the base.
This is a return to guidelines originally set back on March 23.
There was a recent outbreak at Fort Bragg in North Carolina where 90 of 110 individuals taking part in Army survival training tested positive for COVID-19.
Orders included under HPCON Charlie at Keesler
▪ Military members will be restricted to the state of Mississippi during official leave and normal off-duty time. Travel for civilian and family members is not prohibited, but it is discouraged.
▪ All on-base gatherings of more than 10 people are canceled until further notice.
▪ Service members are not allowed to visit locations like off-base gyms, pools, exercise classes, dine-in restaurants, bars or nightclubs.
▪ Members are asked to practice social distancing in public and avoid activities that would make that difficult.
▪ Service members are asked to practice strict hygiene measures such as frequent hand-washing.
