Hurricane Katrina

George Buckland, 73, Biloxi

George Buckland, 78, was a retired Army man who settled in Biloxi after his time in the Armed Forces.

Tammy Madison said the father of five, ranging between 45 and 55 years of age, lived at the Tivoli Hotel on U.S. 90 in Biloxi to be close to the water.

"He was retired military, just like his nephew," Madison said. "He and Jimbo were two old coots who loved one another. The two of them ran the Coast. George really liked the weather down there.

"George lived in the Tivoli, and we think Jimbo didn't want to leave him, because his health was bad. So he went and stayed at the hotel, too. He loved the Coast and his nephew, and I think that's why he stayed."
