MGCCC named to 2016 Great Colleges to Work For
The Chronicle of Higher Education included Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on its list of 2016 Great Colleges to Work For.
The annual survey, released on Monday, considers a wide range of factors at colleges and universities across the country, such as job satisfaction, diversity and work/life balance.
This year’s listing is based on responses from more than 281 institutions, which included 189 four-year colleges, 109 public and private universities and 92 two-year colleges.
Only 93 of the 281 colleges and universities that applied achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition. Of those recognized, 68 are four-year institutions and 25 are two-year institutions.
“As part of our commitment to both employees and students, MGCCC strives to create an institutional culture that fosters diversity, provides outstanding learning opportunities, promotes healthy lifestyles and encourages communication among all college employees,” MGCCC president Dr. Mary S. Graham said in a press release.

The survey recognized the college in several categories including:
▪ Compensation and benefits
▪ Diversity; facilities
▪ Workspace and security
▪ Job satisfaction
▪ Professional/career development programs
▪ Respect and appreciation
▪ Supervisor/department chair relationship
▪ Work/life balance
The assessment had two components: a questionnaire about institutional characteristics and a faculty/staff questionnaire about individuals’ evaluations of their institutions. The assessment also included an analysis of demographic data and workplace policies, including benefits, at each participating college.
MGCCC also was recognized for being on the Honor Roll list. Colleges on that list are cited across all recognition categories, and grouped by enrollment size. Ten four-year colleges, and four two-year colleges made the cut in each size, with MGCCC listed in the medium category for colleges with 3,000 to 9,999 students.
“The college has found that fostering open lines of interactive communication leads to empowered employees who embrace our commitment to make a positive difference in the lives of our students, communities and state. We are grateful for our outstanding employees, and we are dedicated to continue making MGCCC a great place to work and learn,” Graham said.
The survey was administered March 14 through April 15, according to the Chronicle. All survey-related content was provided by ModernThink, which drew data from the colleges and the U.S. Department of Education.
