$30K in scholarships given to Jackson County seniors

JACKSON COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 
 The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce's 26th annual Explosion of Excellence scholarship ceremony was held May 3 at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College's Gautier Gymnasium. At the event, 166 high school students in the top 10 percent of their graduation classes each received a $250 book scholarship. Pictured are the 27 students randomly selected to receive $1,000 and $5,000 scholarships. The scholarships are donated by the public.

At the event, 166 high school seniors each received a $250 book scholarship, and 27 students were randomly selected to receive $1,000 and $5,000 scholarships.

This year's keynote speaker was Julie Gresham, senior counsel and director of Compliance at Ingalls Shipbuilding.

The scholarship program honors high school seniors in the top 10 percent of their class at Jackson County schools. It is sponsored by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce Main Street Tourism Bureau and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

The scholarships are donated by the public to encourage students to consider employment in the county after graduation.
