A Gautier High School English teacher has been named a 2016 Mississippi Teacher of the Year finalist.
Jodi Leigh McKenzie, who teacher 9th through 12th grade, was one of four finalists selected by the Mississippi Department of Education and Mississippi Teacher Center.
The other finalists are Brigit Burt, a 6th grade reading and language arts teacher for Chickasaw County schools, Patricia Kirkpatric, an 8th grade U.S. History teacher for the Cleveland School District, and Vicki Adcock, a 6th and 7th grade language arts and reading teacher in Lauderdale County.
Four principals also were named finalists for Administrator of the Year.

The Mississippi Teacher of the Year program recognizes exemplary teachers in the state, according to the Department of Education. The winner will be asked to share his or her expertise through presentations and activities statewide and represent Mississippi in the National Teacher of the Year competition.
Award winners will be announced April 14.
