Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Cindy Lou Whos, three in all, lined up on stools, straight and tall.

Thing 1 and Thing 2 also were there, two cats in hats and a Grinch to spare.

They all sat down, waiting to hear

"One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish," from me, sitting near.

Dr. Seuss Day at Bayou View was the reason,

For rhyming and reading and dressing out of season.

Why else would a Grinch, all painted up green

Be wearing a Santa suit in March, like a red-clad green bean?

So I read and I read and I rhymed and I rhymed

Reading Seuss' words aloud,

To the second-grade crowd.

Mrs. Sadie Tiner's class was listening, I cannot deny

And asked to see the book's pictures as the story went by.

After the story was read, we talked of Seuss' life,

One student even asked if I were his wife!

Eliza Williams, 7 years of age, said she liked the Grinch story best

It's her favorite above others, above all the rest.

Isabella Bellew, all of 8 at the time,

Said "Green Eggs and Ham" was simply sublime.

"I kinda think it's funny," Bella giggled,

While hands shot up and the class all wriggled.

Bradley O'Neal likes "Cat in the Hat."

But I'm allergic," he said. And that was that.

Ellee O'Neil, no relation to Brad, likes the foot book

"because it's funny," she said, with a peek and a look.

And so, it was time, after listening and reading.

For me to go and the children to be heeding.

For Mrs. Tiner called them to order and each took their assigned seat

Until the next time we meet, for a Dr. Seuss-inspired treat!
