Ole Miss wins Transylvania Bowl competition
Mississippi Blood Services sponsors the annual Transylvania Bowl Blood Drives, a friendly competition at the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University and the University of Southern Mississippi. The goal is to see which school can raise the most blood donations. The prize is a $1,500 scholarship to a student blood donor from the winning school, along with displaying the Transylvania Bowl Trophy and a year's bragging rights. Ole Miss won the bowl, collecting 413 units; and student Saxon Nelson, center, of Gulfport was the MBS scholarship winner. Nelson started donating blood while attending Gulfport High in 2012. At left is Todd Sing, MBS vice president of donor systems; and at right is Michael Thompson, Ole Miss senior associate athletics director for communications and marketing.
