The Mississippi Foreign Language Association honored Pass Christian teacher Erica Scott at its annual conference in Starkville. Scott received the award for Mississippi's Foreign Language Teacher of the Year.
She is an elementary Spanish teacher at both Pass Christian Elementary and DeLisle Elementary. Scott has been teaching for 15 years as a classroom teacher, a high school Spanish teacher and head of the foreign language department in Jackson County Schools. This is her first year in Pass Christian.
D'Iberville Middle student will be in Disney parade
D'Iberville Middle School student Shelby Thibodeaux is one of more than 500 junior high and high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the country who will represent Varsity Spirit in the 2015 Thanksgiving Tour at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla.
Thibodeaux, the eighth grade captain, will perform with the Varsity Spirit All-Americans in a parade performance through Disney's Magic Kingdom Park on Thanksgiving.
She is an honor roll student, member of Journey and Beta Club.
She is the daughter of Justin and Willena Thibodeaux.
Ocean Springs student wins VFW competition
Ocean Springs Senior and International Baccalaureate student Hannah Malloch won the South Mississippi Veterans of Foreign War Voice of Democracy competition. Her speech on "Making a Difference a Vision for America" will go on to state competition.
Pass Christian students selected for Duke TIP
Thirty-eight seventh-graders from Pass Christian Middle School are eligible to take either the SAT achievement test or ACT assessment through the Duke University Talent Identification Program, which identifies seventh-graders in 16 states in the Southwest, Midwest and Southeast who have scored at the 95th percentile or above on a grade-level achievement test.

Annulis, Rhayna Ashley, Jake Battles, Nicholas Berden, Dillan Brooks, Claire Carter, Haley Clark, Noelle Cooper, Caden Counselman, Haden Cuevas, Joseph Dewitt, Courtney Estay, Kyle Foretich, Alyssa Foster, Briana Gamboa, Kyle Huidobro, Brooke Kouba, Dolton Ladner, Sophie Lanier, Ka'trina Larry, Kendrick Lowery, Tyler McGee, Dylan Necaise, Taylor Needham, Andre Niolet, A'nyah Rials, Madison Rutherford, Anna Scafidi, Colbie Smith, Kendra Smith, Dylan Thomas, Taylor Tinsley, Sophia Toner, Ian Trochesset, Van Truong, Brayden Walling, Corben Williams and Kallie Wilson.
'Day at USM' held on Gulf Park campus
The University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Park campus hosted 102 girls from South Mississippi high schools for the annual "Day at USM." Ocean Springs, Long Beach, St. Patrick and Gulfport high schools were represented at the event, which featured an opportunity for female students to learn about college degree programs and careers.
Representatives from the Colleges of Arts and Letters, Business, Education and Psychology, Health, Nursing, Science and Technology made presentations about academic degree programs. Gulf Park campus Student Government Association members also led campus tours.
Susan Mullican, instructor of philosophy, and Carol Strohmetz, a graduate student the Department of History, organized the event.
