MGCCC student named Siemens Technical Scholar
A Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College student was one of 29 nationwide to be named a Siemens Technical Scholar.
Edleshia Leverette, a State Line native who is studying in the process operations technology program at the Jackson County campus, won a $10,000 scholarship and spoke on a panel in Washington DC with Eric Siegel, the Siemens Corporation CEO.
Leverette was eligible for the award because MGCCC had been named a top finalist for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.
She has worked two jobs to make ends meet while attending college in the evenings but the scholarship will help her get a degree in a STEM field. Jobs in science, technology, engineering and math are expected to grow at almost double the rate of non-STEM jobs, experts said.
