The William Carey University School of Education will offer a program designed to help teaching assistants get the qualifications they need to become licensed teachers.

The Elementary Teaching Assistant Academy will begin in the summer of 2016 on the Tradition campus in Biloxi. It is a two-year program with both online and hybrid classes.

Participants can earn a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and after completing the program, graduates will be eligible to become licensed elementary teachers with a reading endorsement.

The academy was designed to meet the needs of teaching assistants already working in schools.
