Gardner Hewes of Gulfport and Jarrod Lesso of Biloxi have completed an eight-week summer internship in Washington with U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Both are graduates of St. Patrick High School. Hewes is a student at the University of Southern Mississippi and Lesso attends the University of Alabama.
Hewes, the son of Billy and Paula Hewes of Gulfport, is a senior majoring in both business administration and political science. During his internship, he worked with the Cochran's personal office staff and the staff of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, which the Mississippi Senator chairs. He also assisted with constituent correspondence and conducted tours of the U.S. Capitol.
Lesso, the son of Mark and Jennifer Mavar of Biloxi, is a senior accounting major. During his internship, he worked Cochran's administrative staff and assisted with constituent services.
