Pass Christian police have opened an investigation after a kindergarten student brought a gun to school Monday morning, the police chief said.
Police Chief Tim Hendricks said the Pass Christian Elementary student was in possession of a handgun.
Police were notified immediately, and the school resource officer and school officials handled the situation quickly and professionally, Hendricks said.
Nobody was harmed and there is no threat to students on campus, Hendricks said.
Hendricks said police want to know why a child had access to a gun in the first place, and the ongoing investigation will answer that question.
Hendricks could not say if the gun was loaded.
