Car of the Day: 1967 Chevelle SS 396
Car of the Day: 1967 Chevelle SS 396
Owner: Cruisin' The Coast raffle car, won by James Roark of Louisiana
What's it got in it?: A 396 cu. in big-block Chevy engine mated to a Muncie four-speed close-ratio transmission putting the power to a 12-bolt Posi rear end
What's been done to it?: The raffle car was built as a tribute to the iconic Chevelle muscle car by Dan's Hot Rodz of Gulfport. The engine was freshly built for this project, the exhaust was enhanced by 3-inch Flowmaster pipes and mufflers, the engine is cooled by an aluminum radiator with an electric fan and disc brakes were added up front.
The passenger compartment is kept cool by a Vintage Air AC system. The Chevelle's interior and vinyl top were executed by Performance Upholstery of Gulfport.
About the raffle: The car was 2015's Make-A-Wish and Cruisin' The Coast fundraising project, and it netted the nonprofit wish-granting organization $25,500. The prizewinner had left Cruisin' The Coast and was 45 minutes away, but he promptly turned around and headed back when he was informed he'd won.
