Sunday’s Cruisin’ The Coast schedule: First day featured cars, music, chrome

Cruisin’ The Coast kicks off Sunday, Oct. 5, and the best places to admire the cars, chat with their owners and celebrate the return are in Gulfport and Gautier.

Fans got a great preview on Saturday as cruisers took to the roads and parked their rides in the downtown. Most events go on rain or shine, and the rain in the forecast for Sunday morning held off and View the Cruise filled the streets in downtown Gulfport.

With more rain expected Sunday, Cruisin’ Through The Decades in Gautier, along with the drive-in movie, was canceled.

Here’s what to expect for Sunday:

View the Cruise fills the streets in downtown Gulfport with cars and more than 20,000 people. The event is from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and besides a first look at the cars that will be driving and parked all across the Coast this week, be ready dance to the music, find the children’s activities and duck into the restaurants that will be open and serving oysters, pizza and all sorts of other great food and drink. Spectators will find parking spaces on streets that are open to traffic.

Cruise-In with KOTO is at Hardy Court Shopping Center, at the intersection of Courthouse Road and Pass Road in Gulfport, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Cruisin’ Feature Car appearances will be at Hardy Court from 9-noon and in Downtown Gulfport from 2-5 p.m. The ‘72 Chevrolet Super Cheyenne will be given away during the finale on Sunday, Oct. 12.

Highlights for Monday

  • Autocross moves to the north parking lot at Scarlet Pearl Casino in D’Iberville
  • Registration packages can be picked up from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. for last names A-K only and Onsite Registration, is from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.at Cruise Central, both at Jones Park, Gulfport
  • New event Long Beach Show & Shine, is from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Long Beach, followed by the parade
