A 53-year-old woman remains hospitalized after she was stabbed repeatedly by her son Saturday, authorities said.
Hancock County deputies responded Saturday morning to a stabbing at a home on Karly Drive in the Deer Park community, which is in the northwest part of the county off Mississippi 43.
Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan said the woman was stabbed several times in the torso and in the back of the head.
The woman lives at the home with her son, Carter Anderson, 34, who was there when authorities arrived. They arrested Anderson on a charge of aggravated assault.
The woman was airlifted to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, where she has undergone surgery and remained in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon, Grannan said.
Officials have yet to say what prompted the attack.
Anderson is being held at the Hancock County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
