Bay St. Louis police found a one-year-old child in a Bay St. Louis complex that contained two bodies Saturday night , police said.
Police Chief Mike De Nardo said police received a report at about 7:30 p.m. of two people dead at Bay Pines, a complex of single-family homes and town houses.
Police are treating the case as a homicide.
De Nardo said the bodies were a man and woman. Their identities have not been released. Friends said at the scene the two were romantically involved.
Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk said the child had been shot in the shoulder. He said the condition of the toddler, who was taken to a New Orleans hospital, is not known at this time.
Faulk said the bodies were still in the complex about 11 p.m. He has not yet been able to go inside of the unit to retrieve or identify the bodies, he said.
“We are still waiting for search warrants,” he said.
De Nardo said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit is en route to do a forensic inspection of the home.
