Police arrest man in ‘targeted’ shooting that wounded two people

Police have arrested a man they say was involved in a shooting that targeted two men on July 10.

Police arrested Javon Lemuel Roberts, 29, of Moss Point, on Wednesday. He faces two counts of aggravated assault.

The shooting at Ingalls Avenue and Heidenheim Drive was not random and more arrests are expected, police Capt. Shannon Massey said.

One of the wounded was taken by ambulance to a hospital. The other went to a hospital in a private vehicle.

Investigators are trying to determine how Roberts and the wounded men knew each other, Massey said.

At least one bullet hit a fence near an area where a woman said she was swimming with her 5-year-old granddaughter.

Police said they pursued a vehicle that matched the description of the getaway car into Moss Point but gave up the chase for safety reasons.

They said the car is a blue 2009 Nissan Maxima sedan with an Alabama specialty license plate.

They also said Regio Lavant, 29, of Moss Point is a person of interest.

Roberts is held at the Jackson County jail. Municipal Judge Michael Fondren set his bond at $500,000.
