Officers stop stolen vehicle in D’Iberville
Police arrested a Biloxi man Monday in connection with a stolen vehicle.
Stephen Hubert Smith, 45, faces a charge of receiving stolen property.
At about 4 p.m. Monday, officers responded to Winn-Dixie, located on D'Iberville Boulevard, after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle in the parking lot, Capt. Marty Griffin said.
As officers arrived, the vehicle was leaving the area. Officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Smith.
The investigation revealed the vehicle was reported stolen on July 9 in Gulfport.
The vehicle's original license plate had been removed, and Smith replaced it with another tag of a similar vehicle that was registered to him. Smith also removed decals indicating the type and model of the vehicle to further conceal its identification, Griffin said.
Smith is being held in the Harrison County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond set by Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain.
