Her son’s father was killed by police, but she is rattled by ‘sickening’ shooting that targeted Dallas officers
Quinyetta McMillon, the mother of Alton Sterling's son Cameron Sterling, on Friday decried the shooting of police officers in Dallas during protests in support of Sterling and another man killed this week by police.
"We wholeheartedly reject the reprehensible acts of violence that were perpetrated against members of the Dallas Police Department," said the statement, released by McMillon's attorneys on her behalf. "Our hearts break for the families of the officers who were lost as they protected protesters and residents alike during a rally."
Sterling was shot to death during an altercation with police officers early Tuesday in the parking lot of a North Foster parking lot in Baton Rouge. On Wednesday, a Minnesota officer fatally shot Philando Castile while he was in a car with a woman and a child.
"Regardless of how angry or upset people may be, resorting to this kind of sickening violence should never happen and simply cannot be tolerated," McMillon's statement said, adding that members of law enforcement have a very difficult job and "the vast majority conduct themselves honorably as they protect and serve our communities."
