The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported no fatalities on South Mississippi roads over Memorial Day weekend, though two people were injured.

The Highway Patrol responded to 13 accidents over the three days, Trooper Chase Elkins said.

None of the collisions was due to alcohol but the Highway Patrol arrested eight people on DUI charges.

With its Click It or Ticket campaign, the MHP issued a total of 45 tickets for seat belt violations and two for child restraint violations. There were 106 hazardous-driving violations and 75 non-hazardous driving violations.

Statewide, the Highway Patrol reported 164 DUI arrests and 132 accidents. Two people were killed and 49 were injured.

The MHP is tracking Memorial Day weekend traffic statistics through midnight Wednesday. Increased patrols will continue until June 5.

"Fortunately, it wasn't too bad out there. That's some good news," Elkins said.
