A man wanted for a 2015 kidnapping, assault, and burglary in Bay St. Louis was arrested this week.

Hancock County Jail records show that Matthew Thomas Cothard, 33, was arrested this week on outstanding warrants for aggravated assault, kidnapping, and burglary.

Cothard was originally arrested in February 2015, after he allegedly held his former girlfriend hostage for nearly 24 hours.

According to police, Cothard on Feb. 4, 2015 went to his ex-girlfriend's home on Cardinal Street; kicked in the front door, and then held the woman hostage.

During the ordeal, he allegedly slashed the tires on the victim's car and threw her cell phone in a canal.

At some point, the victim was able to escape the home and notify authorities.

The Bay St. Louis Police Department arrested Cothard, who also had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence in Pearl River County.
