Shots fired in fight, teen wounded
BILOXI -- Police are investigating a shooting on Carmargue Lane that wounded a 16-year-old early Sunday morning.
Officers went to the 400 block about 12:15 a.m. and learned a juvenile had been shot once in the leg at what appeared to be a party put together by some teenagers, police Sgt. O'Neil Adams said.
The teen was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries that aren't believed to be life-threatening.
Early investigation indicates the shooting occurred during a fight at a residence.
"It was quite chaotic, and as we were interviewing those who were there, parents began showing up," Adams said,
One of the people involved in the fight went to a vehicle parked on the street, grabbed a semi-automatic handgun and fired multiple rounds, Adams said. One of those bullets struck the teen, he said.
Police have identified a person of interest, Adams said.
Neither the alleged shooter nor the wounded teen live at the house where it happened, Adams said.
Carmargue Lane is in a neighborhood just south of the Popp's Ferry Bridge.
