LONG BEACH -- A woman fired shots at her estranged husband while he was holding a child, and followed him out of the house and up the street, police said.

Officers arrested Catherine D. McCutchan, 23, of Long Beach on two counts of aggravated domestic assault after Monday's shooting, Police Chief Wayne McDowell said.

McCutchan shot at him twice -- once in the house and once outside -- but he was wounded only once, he said.

The incident began at a home in the 300 block of White Harbor near Second Street about 10:40 a.m.

The man was holding a pre-school-aged child when the first shot was fired, McDowell said.

"She followed him on foot out the door and shot at him as he was leaving the house and followed him up the street."

The two counts represent each shot fired, he said.

McCutchan was detained in Gulfport.

She was taken to the Harrison County jail, where she was held on a $200,000 bond set by Justice Court Judge Diane Ladner.

"The man underwent surgery and is recovering," McDowell said.

The child is with a relative pending the Department of Human Services' decision on temporary custody, he said.
