Gulfport man jailed in kidnap, rape of ex-girlfriend

GULFPORT -- A man accused in the kidnapping and rape of his ex-girlfriend was arrested Friday, Gulfport police said.

Joshua Lamar Dallas, 32, of Gulfport, was arrested on a charge of kidnapping and two counts of sexual battery.

About 8:30 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to an apartment in the Magnolia State apartment complex on West Birch Drive, police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said in a press release. A family there reported a relative missing, saying they were unable to reach her by cellphone.

While officers were at the apartment, McDaniel said, the woman arrived and said she had been kidnapped and raped by her ex-boyfriend, Dallas.

McDaniel said officers later learned the woman and Dallas had been arguing about her cellphone when he went to her apartment and forced his way in. Dallas fought and choked the woman, McDaniel said, grabbed a knife, and raped her.

Afterward, McDaniel said, the man forced her into his vehicle and drove to his home in the 14400 block of Rippy Road, where he again sexually assaulted her. He later drove her to a residence near Dedeaux Road and Franklin Avenue and set her free, McDaniel said.

Police arrested Dallas without incidence at his home, McDaniel said.

He was taken to the Harrison County jail, where he is held on a $250,000 bond set by Judge Fant Walker.
