Moss Point man, 30, dies after traffic stop

MOSS POINT -- A Moss Point man died shortly after he was pulled over in a traffic stop on March 7, authorities have confirmed.

Moss Point Police Chief Art McClung did not release any information about the death when it occurred.

"It was traffic stop," McClung said Wednesday. "The young man died. It's already under investigation. I was told I can't talk about it until the investigation is completed."

No other details were released.

Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus identified the deceased as Corry Watson Sr., 30. She said he was pronounced dead at Singing River Hospital at 1:11 p.m. on March 7.

The cause of death is pending.

Watson's body was taken to the state Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy.

"There just weren't any injuries or anything that would substantiate his death," Broadus added. "That's the reason for sending him to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy."

Moss Point police contacted the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to conduct an independent probe of the death.

"Once my office receives the investigative file from MBI, it will be presented to a Jackson County grand jury," District Attorney Tony Lawrence said.

A grand jury will ultimately decide if any criminal wrongdoing occurred.
