2 jailed in Monday shooting that wounded man

GULFPORT -- Police arrested two men Thursday who were wanted in a shooting Monday in a parking lot on East Pass Road in which a man with was shot in the head.

Kenneth Wayne Brassell Jr., 20, turned himself in at the Gulfport Police Department on Thursday. Craig Elliot Sandifer, 19, was arrested at a residence in the area of Monroe Street and Ohio Avenue, police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said.

McDaniel said the Brassell shot the man with a handgun after a physical altercation, then left a vehicle with Sandifer.

American Medical Response took the wounded man to an area hospital. McDaniel said he was later airlifted to a New Orleans hospital. McDaniel said the man's condition was unknown Thursday night.

Both men were being held at the Harrison County jail on bonds set by Justice Court Judges Melvin Ray and Louise D. Ladner -- Brassell's at $1 million, and Sandifer's at $100,000.
