Man shot in head in Gulfport parking lot

GULFPORT -- A man was airlifted to a New Orleans hospital after he was shot in the head early Monday.

Gulfport police were called to 1345 East Pass Road at 12:18 a.m., where they found the wounded man in a parking lot. There are several businesses in the strip mall at that address, including Rouse's grocery store and a former Kmart.

Sgt. Damon McDaniel would not say if there were witnesses, and said he could not release any other details of the crime. Police did not have a description of the shooter and had no details about the vehicle used to flee the scene. The name of the victim was not released.
