Man captured after high-speed chase on U.S. 49
HARRISON COUNTY -- Sheriff's deputies arrested a man who led authorities on a high-speed chase Monday night from Stone County through Saucier.
The chase began about 6:55 p.m., and Sheriff Troy Peterson said his office received a call from Stone County authorities requesting assistance in a pursuit on U.S. 49 southbound.
Harrison County deputies deployed spike strips to flatten the vehicle's tires. The driver, nonetheless, continued to try to flee, driving about 15 miles until he was forced to stop at a police roadblock further down the highway.
The sheriff, who took part in the pursuit alongside his deputies, said the suspect's tires were almost completely shredded by the time he was captured just south of Saucier at about 7:25 p.m..
Paramedics took the driver to a hospital in Stone County for treatment to injuries suffered when deputies had to pull him out of the vehicle.
The man, whom authorities have not yet identified, was wanted on a charge of aggravated assault in Stone County, Peterson said.
