Driver leads police on chase through Jackson County

GAUTIER -- A police pursuit Monday on Interstate 10 ended with the driver behind bars on multiple felony charges.

At about 1:30 p.m., Gautier police officer Ben McQuagge attempted to stop a vehicle on I-10. The driver refused to pull over and led officers on a pursuit heading south on Gautier Vancleave Road, Lt. Jerry Cooksey said.

The chase continued east on U.S. 90 into Pascagoula, north on Mississippi 63, then west on I-10. Officers finally stopped the vehicle on I-10 westbound near the 56 mile marker, Cooksey said.

The driver of the vehicle, Lawrence Dumas, 24, of Crestview, Florida, faces a charge of felony fleeing and is wanted on additional felony charges in Okaloosa County, Fla.

No one was injured in the pursuit, which included officers from the Pascagoula Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

Bond information on Dumas was not immediately available.
