Slidell rapper sentenced to 15 years in shootings of half-brother, friend

Dondrique Lewis, a 28-year-old Slidell rapper, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on two counts of attempted murder Wednesday in the 2012 shootings of his half-brother, Damian Lewis, and his longtime friend Andre Jackson, according to the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

District Judge Scott Gardner sentenced Lewis on the first count to 15 years without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence, and 10 years on the second count, with the time to be served concurrently. Lewis was found guilty in November, spokeswoman Lisa Page said.

The two brothers were visiting their sister in Slidell on March 21, 2012 when a shot was fired. Damian Lewis, who had been standing outside, began running, Page said. When he was about a block away, he realized Dondrique Lewis was running beside him, and he stopped.

At that point, Dondrique Lewis pulled a gun from behind his back and shot Damian Lewis in the back of the head as he tried to flee, Page said.
