Suspect sought in Moss Point stabbing

MOSS POINT -- Police are searching for a man accused of stabbing a woman three times after she refused his demands during an attempted robbery, according to Moss Point Police Chief Art McClung.

Police said the victim was taken to Singing River Hospital for treatment after the early-morning attack Monday. She suffered non life-threatening injuries, McClung said.

An investigation began after hospital officials called police to report the stabbing at 2:38 a.m. Monday.

Police said the woman had just returned home from shopping when the suspect walked up to her after she got out of her vehicle at her home in the 4600 block of Community Street.

The suspect, police said, had a knife when he walked up to the woman and told her to "give it up ..."

The victim told police she was stabbed when she starting fighting off the suspect.

The suspect, McClung said, is wanted on attempted robbery and assault charges.

The suspect is a black man between the ages of 17 and 25, about 5-feet-6-inches tall and between 150 and 160 pounds. He was wearing black clothes along with a black hat and black jacket with white lines across the middle of the coat.

McClung said he's hoping the community will call in tips that will help lead to an arrest.
