New Orleans police: 2 dead, teen wounded in three Saturday shootings

NEW ORLEANS -- Police say three shootings in about two hours wounded a 16-year-old boy and killed a 54-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man.

Spokesman Juan Barnes says in news releases that the boy was shot in the arm about 5:10 p.m. Saturday, the woman was found unconscious about 6:30 p.m. after a report of shots fired, and the man was shot in an attempted holdup about 7:10 p.m.

He says the woman was shot in the chest and died in a hospital.

He says the man was getting out of his car when two men tried to rob a friend who was standing nearby. He says one gunman fired as they left, hitting him in the head.

Barnes says the coroner will release names of the dead after notifying families.
