Inmate stabbed to death at Parchman prison
An inmate at the state prison at Parchman died Friday after he was stabbed by another inmate, state Department of Corrections officials said.
Carlos Jack, 43, died at 10 a.m. in the prison hospital. He had been in prison since September 2002, when he was convicted of armed robbery in Lowndes County. He died about an hour after the assault.
The suspect is identified as inmate Myran Shanks, 35. He is serving a 30-year sentence for burglary, aggravated assault and grand larceny in Tallahatchie County and armed robbery in Panola County. He has been in the state prison since 1998.
MDOC officials said the shank, which is a homemade knife, believed to be the murder weapon, has been recovered.
The investigation is ongoing.
Visitation and commissary privileges at Parchman have been suspended pending further notice.
